GREAT classic New York jazz numbers of the 1950s are to be played by Dorian Ford’s Bop School Trio at the Map Café in Kentish Town tomorrow (Friday).
Featured will be pieces played by Charlie Parker, Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis and Benny Golson to name but a few.
“It’s possible to treat a jazz standard by Charlie Parker as a piece of chamber music by Mozart,” says Dorian Ford (pictured), one of Kentish Town’s foremost jazz luminaries. It’s about clean lines and transparency of form and requires refined technique, the aim being freedom of expression.”
His classic bop set follows collections of Bill Evans numbers and jazz songs, both premiered at Map Café.
