YOU’VE been to his operas and loved them – Jenufa, Katya Kabanova, The Cunning Little Vixen and The Makropulos Affair.

Now you can become immersed in Janacek’s output of chamber music at a three-day mini-fest being held at The Forge arts venue in Delancey Street, Camden Town.

The celebration of the Czech composer’s music is being held from Friday, February 4, to Sunday, February 6.

The mini-fest is being arranged by young pianist Ivana Gavric. Born into a musical family in Sarajevo, she completed her musical education in this country and has been building a big reputation on the recital/ concert circuit all over the world during the past three years.

Janacek’s small output of chamber music holds an important key to understanding his great originality and individuality, his constant repetition of short motifs that gather momentum, accumulating in the process.

Solo piano works to be played by Ivana Gavric at The Forge include In the Mists; Sonata 1. X 1905; and On an Overgrown Path.

She’ll accompany James Pohadka playing a cello sonata and Philippe Graffin playing a violin sonata.

Performances of Janacek’s Kreutzer and Intimate Letters will be given by the Solstice Quartet and his vocal works, The Diary of  One Who Disappeared and Moravian songs, will be performed by tenor Nicholas Mulroy and mezzo-soprano Lucy Spickova.

Ivan Gavric’s mini-fest of Janacek’s music is to be repeated at Kings Place in the autumn.
