PREMIER UK jazz trumpeter Damon Brown is taking the short trip from his home in St Pancras Way to Highgate next Thursday evening to play with his remarkable quintet at Lauderdale House. The gig is one of several on his London schedule – Map Café in Grafton Road, Kentish Town, being an important regular venue. And next month he’s a London Jazz Festival fixture at the 606 Club.

Brown’s gutsy, feisty jazz style on the cornet has won plaudits all over the world and his quintet has an international feel. Yutaka Shiina is Japan’s leading modern jazz pianist while the excellent German bassist Martin Zenker is professor of jaza double bass at Seoul University, in South Korea. Also in the star-studded band is tenor saxophonist Art Themen and multi-layered drummer Troy Miller.
