THERE’S no shortage of family-friendly concerts this autumn aimed at introducing classical music to young children.
At Swiss Cottage Library at 2.30pm on Sunday October 3, the Badke Quartet is playing in the first free monthly concert for families put on by the highly enterprising Cavatina Chamber Music Trust.
Other Saturday afternoon concerts in the Swiss Cottage Library series this autumn will involve the Harlequin Winds on November 7 and Galeazai Ensemble on December 12.
The Cavatina Trust also helps to fund selected concerts at the Wigmore Hall, notably a family concert being given by the Carducci String Quartet at 11am on Saturday December 4.
Tickets for 8-25s are free; accompanied adults pay £5.
Family concerts are also starting up again at Lauderdale House at 11.30am on Sunday October 3, with a programme of Mendelssohn, Chopin, Mozart and Saint-Saëns works performed by the young Ruisi Trust.
The fortnightly concerts are supported by the Elias Fawcett Trust. Tickets for children are £1 each; accompanied adults pay £7 with concessions paying £5.
At LSO St Luke’s in City Road, there’s fun-packed musical morning for families with children under eight on Saturday October 16, at 11am, tickets costing £3 per person, adults and children, babies under 12 months free.
There’s a variety of musical activities including gamelan and music technology workshops.
Other LSO St Luke’s events include free musical activities for under-fives on Sunday November 19, together with a lunchtime concert, also suitable for under-fives on the same day.
Family friendlies at Wigmore Hall are not just limited to the Cavatina Trust concert on December 4. There’s an exciting family concert for the over-sixes on Saturday morning, October 16, when singers will help children stage a version of The Huntsman by Brahms and compose their own songs. Tickets cost £5 for children and £7 for adults. The concert is supported by the Lucille Graham Trust and Mayfield Valley Arts Trust.
