ADMIRERS of the Madchester scene in days gone by might recognise the illustrious  SSR (School of Sound Recording).

The Smiths were the first band to use it in its original incarnation as Spirit Studios in Manchester, later followed by The Stone Roses, The Happy Mondays and New Order.

Now the studios are opening as SSR London in an old piano factory in Camden Town, launching with a talent search for any penniless band or singer with a scrap of talent  should pay heed to.

Just send in a demo to SSR London’s Soundcloud dropbox and promote your track on your chosen social networks, with a short statement on why you should win.

Six winners will each win a free recording studio session.

SSR London is due to open in October, providing training and education across a range of audio engineering, music, live sound and film/TV production courses.

The winning bands will be among the first to record in SSR’s brand new Spirit 2 studio, which will be used not only for education purposes on SSR courses but will also act as a commercial recording studio.
