Rock and Pop: Coming Up - Rapper Frownz up for Roc Da Mic

IN the spirit of all things Camden, we’d like to give support to rapper Frownz, who has links to Nigeria’s political history.

Frownz, 17, whose real name is Olasemo Abiola, has reached the final of talent contest Roc Da Mic – judged by Melissa Bell, the mother of Alexandra Burke.

The Quintin Kynaston pupil spent the past two years studying for his GCSEs while managing to put out two mixtapes of his work. Miraculously, he managed to achieve 12 A*-C GCSEs and sell more than 1,000 copies of CD My View at the same time.

But a look behind Frownz’s Camden life reveals a much deeper history: he is the son of the late Chief MKO Abiola – one-time president elect of Nigeria, who became a political prisoner when previous military president Ibrahim Babangida annulled the results. Said Frownz: “Bearing in mind the records of achievement, and standard set by my father and family, I pledge to top the success obtained already in my bloodline.”

At 14, he toured Botswana, and now he is due to fight for the prize of a record deal and £10,000 at Club 2000, Wembley, on September 12. The winner is dependant on who brings the most supporters to vote – so do your bit!
