TOES will be tapping to Yiddish Swing in Lauderdale House, Highgate, later this month when Hilda Bronstein brings her new klezmer-swing band Chutzpah to north London for the first time.
“There’ll be some wonderful old songs originating from the towns and villages of pre-war eastern Europe and numbers composed in the US by immigrant composers, some influenced by he sounds of American jazz and Vaudeville,” she says. “We’ve added some new songs from Moldova and another with a cool beat that brings Yiddish song right into the 21st century.”
Hilda Bronstein has become a leading exponent of Yiddish singing, and the new wave of klezmer music, since resuming her singing career seven years ago.
