IT'S the last weekend for bandstand concerts, so make the most of the splendid range of music being played at the different locations on Hampstead Heath and in the Royal parks.
On Sunday afternoon there are traditional brass bands playing in Kensington Gardens and St James’s Park.
Elsewhere, there’s popular French and other music played by the Jacques Café Band at the Golders Hill Park bandstand and classic jazz by the New York Café Band at Parliament Hill bandstand.
But most popular of the Sunday concerts may well be the new sound of modern jazz horn music played by The London Horns at the Regent’s Park bandstand.
The three-horn band play with a groove-driven feel that has an explosive live impact.
Bank Holiday Monday has two more bandstand concerts before the season comes to an end.
The all-girl Covent Garden String Quartet will play a variety of classical and popular music at the Golders Hill Park bandstand and the Ginny Brown Band will play some fine country music at the Parliament Hill bandstand.
Elsewhere, there’s some interesting music worth catching.
Tomorrow (Friday), the National Portrait Gallery’s excellent series of free concerts is starting up again with Sam Leake’s Aquarium, the young jazz foursome.
On Monday, there’s a must for early music enthusiasts. At Kings Place, the Choir of the Enlightenment is giving a special performance of the Monteverdi Vespers. It should be something really special as the choir has been singing the Vespers all over Europe during the summer.
