VENEZUELAN flautist Huascar Barradas (pictured) is bringing his “neo-folklore” jazz to London for the first time next Thursday when his band will play at the Simon Bolivar Hall in Fitzrovia.
His virtuoso performances have won accolades at concerts all over the world, his compositions and arrangements noted for their Latin fire and passion.
Strikingly, he’s a product of Venezuala’s high priority placed on involving street children in music-making at a young age through its El Sistema youth orchestras.
In 1978 he was a founding member of a regional youth and children’s orchestra that participated in a concert given by regional orchestras, where he played together with more than 1,000 children.
