IT'S the turn of diva Diana Krall to take to the stage at this Saturday’s picnic concert on the lawns of Kenwood House, Hampstead.
She’s an outstanding singer/ pianist, an exemplary performer welcomed all over the world, and winner of numerous awards.
She landed her third Grammy Award in January for her ninth album, Quiet Nights.
But is she the great jazz musician she once was?
Time was when the little-known Canadian was regarded with awe by the jazz hardliners, a new star in the jazz firmament.
But over the years her recordings have moved further and further away from her jazz roots, straying into easy listening and pillow-talk at times.
And like many other jazz musicians she’s gaining new inspiration from Latin American rhythms – her album Quiet Nights being notable for its Bossa Nova tracks.
On Saturday, her jazz fans will no doubt be hoping to get some of the great swinging Krall of yesteryear along with her new amiable, unchallenging music with Bossa Novas thrown in for good measure.
