Rock and Pop: Coming up...Iceland's Sigur Ros frontman Jønsi at the Forum

• SNOW, debt, the ash cloud and moody electronic music. All these are synonymous with Iceland, and next month (May 26/27) the “world’s second most famous Icelander” will step out of the shadows and on to the stage at the Forum in Kentish Town. Jónsi (pictured) is the frontman of Sigur Rós, a band whose chilled-out electronica has been compared with the music of the world’s first most famous Icelander (Björk, obviously).

His gig at the Forum, part of his debut UK solo tour, will be as much about the performance as the music. The blurb on the venue’s website promises “wild animals, burning buildings and Biblical storms” as well as “gradual rejuvenation”.

A load of old hype? As the Eyjafjallajökull volcano shows, never underestimate Iceland.
