EVER-strumming/ever plucking Hampstead guitarist John Etheridge and long-term violinist partner Chris Garrick are launching their second album Men on Wire at the Pizza on the Park, Knightsbridge, on Wednesday evening.

If it’s anything like their first, Dimming of the Day, it will provide an eclectic feast of interplay and improvisation bearing comparison to the legendary partnership of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli.

The duo make extensive use of looping and other effects, creating exotic tapestries of sound, almost orchestral at times.

Their album launch comes in a week of some riveting jazz. Tomorrow (Friday), singer Zoe Schwarz and guitarist Rob Koral will be playing for the lunchtime crowd, no doubt including some numbers from their new album.

Monday evening at the Con Bar, St Pancras Way, Leeds-based band IDST (apparently the graphitic mnemonic for If Destroyed Still True) will be showing off their thrilling compositions to London jazzers for the first time.

Tuesday evening at The Oxford, Kentish Town Road, has legendary saxophonist Stan Sulzmann playing with the Barry Green Quartet.

Rossini’s Il Turco in Italia opens the Royal Opera House on Saturday evening.

Family Friendly concerts get going again at Lauderdale House, Highgate, on Sunday morning with a piano recital by Florian Mitrea.

Indian classical musician Amjad Ali Khan will be playing with his sons and friends at the Wigmore Hall on Thursday evening.
