THERE'S some great jazz in north London just over the coming week.
Chromatic harmonica player Graham Pike and his quartet are performing on Friday and Saturday at Map Café in Grafton Road, Kentish Town.
On Sunday afternoon, there’s a choice between two Karens. At the Forge, Delancey Street, accordionist Karen Street and her quartet will be playing music from their latest disc. At the Princess of Wales, Primrose Hill, tenor saxophonist Karen Sharp will be sitting in with the regular Pete Chapman Trio.
There’s yet more great choice on Monday. The Con Bar at the Constitution in St Pancras Way has a super double-bill: American trumpeter Andre Canniere and his quartet complemented by Danish pianist Esben Tjalve and his quartet.
Also on Monday, virtuoso vibes maestro Nat Steele will playing with his quartet at Positively 4th Street in Hampstead Road.
Definitely not to be missed on Tuesday evening will be the debut of the Tom Farmer Big Band at the Oxford, Kentish Town Road. Big things are expected of the big band.
Also on Tuesday evening, Francesca Lewis and her quintet will be playing at the Cross Kings, York Way.
Don’t flag, jazzers, possibly the best is yet to come.
A four-day festival Jazz Scene Europe opens on Wednesday at Kings Place, York Way, starting with groundbreaking John Surman music written for string quartet and double bass.
Next up on Thursday evening is a very rare London appearance of beguiling Italian duo Gianluigi Trovesi on clarinets and Gianni Coscia on accordion.
