Classical music and jazz: Latest news - Nitin Sawhney work performed by LSO at the Barbican

A THRILLING new score composed by Nitin Sawhney is to be performed at the Barbican on Monday by the London Symphony Orchestra together with a band led by Sawhney on piano and celeste. The piece will played against the back­drop of a screening of the 1993 Japanese silent film Yogoto No Yume, Nightly Dreams, by director Mikio Naruse.

At Lauderdale House, Highgate, tomorrow (Friday 26) there is a concert performance of Verdi’s La Traviata by Greenwich Park Opera. Finnish soprano Beatrice Dansfield is Violetta and tenor John Upperton is Alfredo.

At St George’s Blooms­bury, the Orchestra of Situation Opera is performing a viola fantasia by Hummel and two Mozart concertos.

At the Royal Opera House’s Crush Bar, the free lunchtime recital is being given by American tenor Steven Ebel described as having ‘a rich lyric tenor’ voice. At Wigmore Hall, the lunchtime recital is being given by Tai Murray, one of the few African-Americans involved in classical music

At The Forge, Delancey Street, tomorrow (Friday), the Naked Footprints duo percus­sionist Dave Hassell and tenor saxophonist Andy Scott will be featuring music inspired through recent travels into the Mexican rainforest.

At the Con Bar, St Pancras Way, on Monday evening, Mark Hanslip will be demonstrating his expertise on the alto sax.
