GEORGE Vass, former director of the Hampstead & Highgate Festival, is climbing aboard the conductor’s rostrum at St Martin-in-the-Fields on Monday to take charge of the weekly free lunchtime concert.
He’s conducting the Blaze Ensemble in performances of Igor Stravinsky’s Danses Concertantes and Richard Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll.
The concert is one of several Vass is conducting in London over the next few months, others being at St George’s, Holborn, and St James’s, Piccadilly, in May and July. Each of these concerts will involve performances by the Blaze Ensemble.
“My 2010 schedule is particularly with concerts and recordings,” said George Vass at his Parliament Hill home.
“These include the English Music Festival being held in Dorchester, Oxfordshire, in May, and engagements with the Ulster and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestras and the Welsh National Opera.”
Late last year, he was involved in making a CD of Christmas Carols with the Apollo Singers, recorded at Highgate Parish Church with William Whitehead at the St Michael’s organ.
