Classical & Jazz with Sebastian Taylor
If you want to hear rising jazz stars, you’ve got to be at the Con Cellar Bar underneath the Constitution in St Pancras Way on Monday evening.
There’ll be a great double bill at the diminutive but popular jazz haunt, with young trumpeter Freddie Gavita fronting his group followed by saxophonist Josh Ison and his quartet.
But don’t ignore the Tuesday evening gig at The Oxford in Kentish Town Road where Sam Crockatt and his quartet will demonstrate why they’ve built up such a strong following.
Also on Tuesday, The Two Johns, guitarists Etheridge & Williams, are playing together again at Ronnie Scott’s.
For a relaxing time on Wednesday, the Green Man in Euston Road has singer Iain Mackenzie plus the Frank Griffith Nonet presenting the songs of Mel Torme.
Hampstead and Highgate classical music lovers face a difficult choice tomorrow (Friday). At Burgh House, tenor Jeff Stewart accompanied by Audrey Hyland, is singing Schumann’s Dichterliebe plus Hahn and Britten songs. And at Lauderdale House, period instrument group Gut Instinct is playing 17th-century gems.
The Monday lunchtime free concert at the Crush Room in the Royal Opera House is by cellist Colin Jackson, accompanied by Anthony Twinner. His programme will include Gaspar Cassado’s delightful “Sonata nellow antico spagnuolo”.
Thursday lunchtime’s free concert at St Pancras Church in Euston Road is by Shuann Chai, the noted American-Chinese pianist. She’ll be playing Beethoven sonatas, including the Pathetique – it should be a superb recital.
