CAMDEN is to get its first 'Rock n Roll Mayor'. Labour councillor Jonathan Simpson is due to be confirmed as the borough's first citizen at a ceremony at the Town Hall tomorrow night. His theme for the next 12 months will be Camden's famous musical heritage and he has chosen the Roundhouse Trust, which helps youngsters access the arts, as the Mayor's charity. His Mayoress will be broadcaster and friend Amy Lame (pictured), while the London Gay Men's Chorus will perform at the ceremony.

Labour councillor Abdul Quadir is due to serve as deputy mayor.

Brilliant news...

Camden's new Labour leadership is really inspiring... seems to be a bunch of people who are all really committed to supporting and helping people, promoting equality and human rights - and overall just being extremely nice folk.

Amy is wonderful, couldn't ask for a better mayoress!

Lucky Camden

Amy is a tireless campaigner and committed genuinely great person. Almost makes me want to move to Camden!

How unusual...

I for one find the Mayor's wife unusual.

Not unusual - fun!

Sounds like two friends are going to enjoy the role. Good on them!
