THE lawn of the “Actors’ Church”, St Paul’s in Covent Garden, will be transformed into a verdant riverbank for the first of a season of summer plays.
Alan Bennett’s Wind in the Willows will start its run next month at the famous place of worship, which has been associated with the theatrical community since the 1600s.
The church itself will be done up as Toad Hall, home of wealthy and obnoxious Mr Toad, while the shrubbery will represent Mole End.
The St Paul’s 2010 repertory season of open-air “promenade” plays will also include Romeo and Juliet, produced by Iris Theatre, a company based in the church. The building will be jazzed up with neon lights for the occasion.
• Wind in the Willows and Romeo and Juliet run from May 31-July 2. Tickets: 08444 771 000.
