A POPULAR street cleaner will have a tree planted in his memory.
Jorge Da Costa became a local hero around St John’s Wood and Lisson Grove after he started work sweeping roads in 2006.
His sudden death in April, aged just 44, has left the neighbourhood in mourning and the council has responded by agreeing to the lasting memorial.
Jorge’s son Martin, 20, said: “Our dad was loved by our family and we are all extremely moved to think that his positive attitude and the way he greeted everyone with a smile has made so many people happy.”
Leith Penny, the council’s strategic director for city management, said: “Jorge Da Costa was loved by the residents he worked hard to help. He was a credit to the council.”
