Parents sign teachers petition to boycott SAT exams for primary school children

Perants Signing Teahcers Petition

Published: 30 April, 2010

PARENTS queued up in Upper Street on Saturday to back a planned boycott of controversial SATs exams for primary schoolchildren, writes Róisín Gadelrab.
After the Tribune reported last week that some of the borough’s headteachers will continue with the exams, teachers’ union Unison held a day of action in Angel on Saturday. Parents and teachers lined up to sign a petition supporting the call not to hold the exams.
In a secret ballot organised by the National Association of Head Teachers and the National Union of Teachers last month, headteachers and deputies voted by substantial majorities to boycott the tests – due to take place between May 10 and 11.
