Leona Lewis bookshop attack: Man held under Mental Health Act
A JUDGE has detained a man suffering from schizophrenia under the Mental Health Act after he admitted punching Leona Lewis in a West End bookshop.
The X-Factor winner was signing copies of her autobiography in the Piccadilly Circus branch of Waterstone's in October when Peter Kowalczyk, 29, leapt from a crowd of fans and landed a punch. City of Westminster magistrates' court heard Mr Kowalczyk shouted 'gotcha' as he landed the punch.
Judge Howard Riddle today ordered him to remain in hospital for an indeterminate period.
