SCHOOLS in Islington have seen a huge rise in the number of students taking triple science courses.
Two years ago, 58 students chose triple science, rising to 382 this year. The course covers biology, physics and chemistry but awards separate GCSEs for each.
Last year, Islington won funding from the Learning Skills Network to run a triple science network. The borough now hopes to be successful in its bid for funding for the next academic year.
Elizabeth Garrett Anderson and Mount Carmel are among schools which have held special events on the potential careers a science qualification can lead to. More than 200 pupils recenly attended workshops on forensics, clinical nursing and medical physics. London College of Fashion ran the most popular, giving pupils the chance to make their own shampoo.
