HUNDREDS turned out in Islington on Good Friday to watch and take part in the annual dramatic re-enactment of the walk by Jesus to Calvary. People lined the streets to watch the half-mile procession, from the N1 Centre at the Angel to St Mary’s Church in Upper Street.

Alex Bryson, 23, was daubed in fake blood for his role as Jesus. Alex, an organist at Cross Street Baptist Church, struggled with the eight-foot cross for quarter of a mile.

Then he handed it over to Simon of Cyrene, played by Tony Ashley, who carried it the rest of the way to St Mary’s Church.

The Happy Days Gospel choir entertained the crowds at the N1 Centre and a half hour Easter service at St Mary’s was conducted by Rev Martine Oborne and Pastor Mark Shelton.
