CAR racing and water balloon catapulting were among the activities taking place at Pimlico Academy this week to get pupils enthusiastic about science.

Pupils in Years 7 and 8 at the Lupus Street school took part in five challenges as part of the “Science Olympics” to mark National Science and Engineering Week.

Four teams gave up their evenings to battle it out for the highest number of points in a series of challenges: boat building, a chemistry experiment, water balloon catapult and electric car racing.

The winning team was the Fantastic Three, who were awarded a gold medal and special prize pack from the Science Museum.

Year 7 pupil Kula Toganivalu, who’s team The Einsteins came third, said: “Science doesn’t have to be all about formulas, it can be fun as well. The electric car building has been my favourite challenge so far because it’s the most creative.”
