COMEDIAN Charlie Higson quizzed quick-witted students in a battle for the title of Young Consumer of the Year.
Mr Higson took the questionmaster’s chair in the fast-paced challenge at the Emirates Stadium two weeks ago.
Ten teams from Central Foundation School for Boys, St Aloysius’ RC College, Islington Police Cadets, and Mount Carmel RC School for Girls battled it out for the title. The contest, run by Islington Council’s trading standards team, aims to teach teenagers about consumer rights, money and finance, health safety and the environment.
Central Foundation’s sixth form came out champions, with the school’s Year 10 coming second. A police cadet team came third.
Town Hall environment chief councillor Greg Foxsmith said: “This contest helps make sure young people know their rights, and it’s impressive how much they know. Thanks to Charlie Higson for agreeing to help and well done to everyone who took part.”
The winners will now represent Islington at the London Regional Final of the contest, organised by the Trading Standards Institute, at City Hall, on March 26.
They will be joined by the third-placed team, because only one team from each school or group can compete in the final.
