A LEGENDARY Charing Cross Road bookshop threatened with closure has won a last-minute stay of execution after announcing it will move to new premises.
Quinto Books will move just two doors down from its current home.
Last year Quinto was notified by landlords the Soho Housing Association (SHA) that its lease would not be renewed because of redevelopment plans for the site.
But after months of uncertainty and frantic negotiating the SHA have found a new store for Quinto.
Manager Emily Cleaver said: “We are sad to be moving out of number 48a – the premises has been a bookshop for over a hundred years so a piece of London history will be disappearing when we move. But we’re very glad that we’ll still be in business on Charing Cross Road, helping to keep the unique book-selling tradition of the street alive.”
The new store will open on Tuesday.
