Life sentence for killer of Elliot Guy
Tuesday March 16, 2010
THE man who killed Elliot Guy - the carpenter stabbed in the neck after in Tufnell Park - has been handed a life sentence after admitting manslaughter by diminished responsibility.
Colin Welsh, 42, was told at the Old Bailey that the sentence will mean he will serve a minimum of 12 years in ail. Mr Guy, 27, died in July 2008
Mr Welsh, who lived in Tottenham, had suffered from schizophrenia. The court heard he had a history of drug offences, carrying knives and violence, and only four months before the attack on Mr Guy had been fined for attacking a university student in Scotland.
He was studying philosophy at St Andrews University but prosecutor QC Jonathan Laidlaw said his campus flatmates had witnessed his 'extreme losses of temper'.
