Hot shot – City Road office block goes up in flames

This extraordinary picture of an entire office block ablaze was taken by restaurateur Joseph Varona in City Road, Finsbury, at around 6am yesterday (Thursday).
Mr Varona, whose Italian restaurant L’Abat-Jour is across the road from the blaze, said the office block suddenly erupted in flames.
It was believed to have started in a restaurant at 4.30am and quickly spread to offices.
There were no injuries but City Road was cordoned off for most of the morning and a large area of the Square Mile was blanketed in thick smoke from the fire.
