SPRING has finally come, as the world’s oldest youth club was spruced up in the spirit of the season.
Oxford Street retailers and the New West End Company gathered on Friday to give a lick of paint to two rooms at the St Andrew’s Club in Old Pye Street, which Westminster’s Lord Mayor Duncan Sandys has chosen as his official charity, having offered his support for a number of years.
The St Andrew’s Club was established in 1866 and provides activities ranging from football and archery to cookery and arts and crafts to Westminster’s young people.
It will also benefit from new furniture, donated by West End department stores John Lewis and House of Fraser, as part of a wider bid to encourage businesses to offer their support.
