POLICE were called in after a skull was discovered under a primary school playground.
Builders excavating a piece of Hugh Myddelton school’s playground, which has been sold off for a development of flats, made the discovery this week.
Islington Police detective inspector Trevor Borley said: “The skull looks quite old. We’re satisfied there aren’t any other human remains. We’re going to submit the skull for ageing tests. I think it may be 100 years old. There’s allegedly old burial sites in the area.”
DI Borley said he believed some of the earth may have been brought in from other areas to fill in the site in the past. He added: “It’s non-suspicious at the moment.”
