Tesco Fortune Green booze licence delay

THE “Say No To Tesco” campaign has won a victory against the supermarket giant by forcing it to delay the sale of alcohol in its Express store in Fortune Green.
The New Journal reported earlier this month how furious residents and traders vowed to boycott the new branch located at the Sager development in Fortune Green Road.
The store opened last week but plans to sell alcohol between 6am and 11pm, seven days a week, have been shelved after neighbours spotted Tesco had not put a notice about the application at the site – as is required by council regulations.
Following complaints by Liberal Democrat councillor Flick Rea, on behalf of residents, inspectors visited the site on February 3 and found Tesco had failed to put up the necessary sign. This week a memo from Ed Watson, Camden’s head of Public Protection, confirmed the retailer will be forced to re-submit the application.
Cllr Rea said: “It’s only a small temporary victory but it will give people more time to get their objections in to the council.”
Tesco’s press office was contacted repeatedly but no comment on the case was provided.
