WHAT do you get when you mix a fancy dress party and a dog show with a sponsored shaved-head event, a raffle and an auction, a dash of children’s art, and plenty of live music and DJs? It could only be the heady cocktail that is the annual York Rise street party.
People living in the Dartmouth Park enclave took over the road on Saturday and, as well as fun, games, stalls and entertainment, gourmet food was the order of the day: delicacies from the Dartmouth Arms pub, curry restaurants Monsoon and Liberty Kebabish, award-winning sausages from Manu at Jackson’s Butchers, cakes from Truffles deli and The Village Cafe helped fuel the party, while more than £2,700 raised from the day’s activities went to the Histiocytosis Research Trust, a medical charity that investigates rare childhood illness.
