AN Indian restaurant has been temporarily closed by Camden Council after rats were spotted by customers, according to the Town Hall. In a press statement released today, the council said the Lords Indian Restaurant in Whitfield Street, Bloomsbury, has been made the subject of an Emergency Prohibition Order at the Highbury Corner Magistrates Court after inspectors found "large amounts of rat droppings" in the kitchen and main restaurant (see photo). The restaurant has been ordered to pay £500 costs, the council said. Conservative environment chief Councillor Chris Knight said: "The Council always tries to work with food businesses to improve hygiene standards. However, when public health is put at risk we will not hesitate to take immediate enforcement action to protect residents and visitors to the borough."
