Traffic problems hit Camden Town
BY JOSIE HINTON
MOTORISTS have complained of further traffic chaos in Camden Town as the council has begun the next phase of its controversial masterplan for roads in the area.
In the latest disruption, Camden High Street is closed for four weeks between Jamestown Road and Castlehaven Road – reopening on February 22.
Diversions are in operation to redirect traffic while the work is completed. Shops on Chalk Farm Road and Castlehaven Road can be accessed by a diversion route to Kentish Town Road and Prince of Wales Road.
Taxi driver Olive Demeke said: “It's just more problems for us. Our journeys take twice as long and people are less happy to pay for a taxi when they just have to sit in traffic.”
The work is the second phase to create the 'naked street' by removing street clutter.
Camden's Conservative environment chief Councillor Chris Knight said: “Every effort is being made to minimise the duration of the road closure and I hope local people understand and appreciate that there does need to be some short term pain to allow us all to benefit from these much needed improvements."

I drive up Camden High Street on that particular section of the road almost every day, and yet have to see it closed. When I saw the signs put up, announcing the roadworks, I wasn't too happy it, but for now, all looks good.
Maybe they sometimes close it for a few hours, but I haven't experienced that. I suggest you check out for yourself.
