A LEADING barrister is standing for the Green Party on issues ranging from saving the Whittington casualty department to protecting a wildlife garden at the former National Children’s Home in Highbury.

Mother-of-three Emma Dixon, 38, is both prospective Parliamentary candidate for Islington North and the Town Hall candidate for Highbury East. She believes her best chance of being elected is at Highbury East, where well-known Lib Dem councillor Laura Willoughby is standing down.

Ms Dixon lives in Highbury, and specialises in judicial reviews in which members of the public or authorities attempt to overturn previous legal judgments. Married to political consultant James Humphrys, 42, her children – aged 10, eight and five – all go to a local state primary school.

“I’m very concerned about the way Archway has been allowed to run down,” she said.  “It’s a mess and a lot of money has been wasted on glossy consultations. It needs to be decluttered and tidied up and businesses will start to prosper and new ones move in.”

A member of the Friends of Gillespie Park group, in Highbury, she was keen to emphasise that when she last stood at local elections in Highbury East she came third and was just 200 votes away from being elected.
