London Riots – Thanks to police

Published: August 11, 2011

CAMDEN residents and businesses totally condemn the acts of the mindless vandals and criminals who attacked our community on Monday.

These individuals account for a tiny minority who have exploited the events taking place in other parts of London for their own benefit.

Community relations with the police have never been better.

We know that the events in Camden have absolutely nothing to do with any fictitious underlying tensions, but simply a matter of opportunist criminals who we all roundly condemn and wait for them to answer to the courts in the coming months. We know this because we have a network of community-led Safer Neighbourhoods panels who engage at a local level with police and the borough-wide consultative group where the Borough Commander responds to any potential concerns raised.

The police have kept the Camden Community & Police Consultative Group up to speed throughout the developments in Camden, albeit, the incidents are not as serious as in other London boroughs and we thank them for that.

We have also been inundated by members of the community contacting us and expressing their thanks and gratitude for the work being carried out by the police.

The police have our full support in bringing these criminals to account for their actions.

Chair, Camden Community & Police Consultative Group
