AMY Winehouse fans who stole road signs from the Camden Town street where she lived have been told they can return them without fear of prosecution under a “no questions asked” amnesty.

As the New Journal revealed last week, four signs in Camden Square, which were scrawled with felt-tip pen tributes to the singer, were prised off walls and fences in the days following her death.

The 27-year-old was found dead in her house last month and investigators are still trying to establish the cause of her death.

Camden Council this week handed the surviving signs to Ms Winehouse’s relatives through her management company.

It revealed that the signs, unique collectors’ items, will be auctioned for charity.

Deputy council leader Councillor Sue Vincent said: “We would like to give all the signs to the family so I am appealing to the person or persons who took the signs to do the honourable thing and give them back.”

She added: “While we understand that Amy had many fans across the world, it isn’t appropriate that individuals should take them as souvenirs.
“The signs can be handed in to any police station in Camden. No questions will be asked and no action will be taken.”
