Actor Rupert Everitt opens new school playground at St George The Martyr Primary School
HOLLYWOOD star Rupert Everett was a surprise guest at the commemorative opening of a new school playground at St George The Martyr Primary School in Holborn.
The actor, who is currently playing Henry Higgins in Pygmalion in the West End opposite Kara Tointon, became involved with the school because of its proximity to his current home.
He said: “I only just live around the corner, and, indeed, it is a lovely place to live near.
“The neighbours have kids at the school and asked me if I would come along.
“Naturally, I said, ‘yes’.”
Mr Everett undertook the role of cutting the ribbon last Friday to unveil a multi-coloured mosaic plaque made by several mothers and fathers at the school.
While the Mary Ward Centre in Holborn taught the parents how to make the mosaic, the school provided their own materials.
Carol Hand, a parent at St George The Martyr, said: “The plaque is primarily made from the parents’ own bits of broken crockery and china.”
