Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin honoured with statue in Mall
A STATUE of Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space, was this week unveiled in the West End.
Dignitaries including Gagarin’s daughter, Elena Gagarina, were at the British Council’s HQ in The Mall, for the unveiling yesterday (Thursday), marking 50 years of manned space flight. A gift from the Russian space agency the statue (above) is a smaller copy of a 1984 Anatoly Novikov work at Gagarin’s old school outside Moscow.
