New look for Lumières site 

A VICTORIAN cinema is set to be restored after plans were approved by Westminster City Council. The building at 309 Regent Street, now part of the University of Westminster, was the venue for the Lumière brothers Auguste and Louis’ UK moving pictures debut in 1896.


Ride in parks, says Boris

BORIS Johnson has urged Royal Parks bosses to open up more paths for cyclists. The London mayor said he wanted the rules on cycling in green spaces including Regent’s Park and Hyde Park to be relaxed. 


Summer fundraiser

All Souls Church of England Primary School Summer Fair takes place tomorrow (July 16) between noon and 3pm to help raise funds for equipment and school trips. Entrance to the fair is in Riding House Street, W1. As well as cakes, a BBQ and raffle – with a laptop as top prize – there will be other fun stalls.


Tough stance on hot dogs

CITY Hall has warned it will take a “no nonsense” approach to unlicensed street trading outside concerts in Hyde Park. Illegal vendors of hot dogs and ice cream would have their goods seized, it said.
