A BUSINESSMAN who almost killed a barman 40 years younger than him when he slashed him across the throat with a knife has been jailed for eight years.
John Anthony Tunbridge, 63, of Amwell Street, Finsbury, lashed out after an evening drinking in the Junction pub in Corsica Street, Highbury, with a friend last year. He became abusive after staff refused to serve them because of their drunken behaviour.
The 22-year-old victim had helped to throw Tunbridge out. He returned and lashed out at the barman, who initially thought he had been punched.
Tunbridge was jailed at Blackfriars Crown Court after pleading guilty to wounding with intent. He was ordered to pay £3,000 compensation to his victim.
