A MUSICIAN has vowed to stage a street protest concert after a Soho club cancelled a gig she had spent hundreds of pounds promoting.

Electro-punk artist Quilla Constance had been due to perform at Punk in Soho Street on Wednesday to mark the release of her new single. The West End-based musician says she signed a contract with the club and booking agents Feedme Music but that the club subsequently cancelled the gig because of a “double booking”.

Musicians union Equity last night (Thursday) said they were looking into the case.

She said: “I signed the contract and was told to work as hard as I could in order to promote the event and sell tickets. I was very excited about the gig as Punk is such a great venue, but I was disappointed to receive a call from Feedme Music telling me the gig had been cancelled.”

Feedme Music business partner Dave Grenfell said his company had offered Quilla an alternative date for the event after the venue pulled the plug. He said: “I have a lot of sympathy for Quilla to the extent that obviously she has spent a lot of time and money on promoting her event, which is something you have to do as an artist at that stage of your career. We have worked with Punk for three and a half years. Unfortunately as a promoter when the venue pulls the plug on an event there is not a lot you can do.”

Punk declined to comment.

• Quilla’s free public gig will take place at 8pm on Wednesday June 29 in Soho Street.
