POLICE have been clambering on residents’ rooftops and sneaking into their homes to show how easily they could be burgled.
The shock tactics have been employed by Fortune Green Safer Neighbourhoods Team to encourage residents to secure their homes.
Officers have been identifying insecure homes and breaking in – leaving a calling card to notify residents that they could have been burgled.
On one occasion a resident was shocked to find a uniformed officer in her living room after he climbed in through an open bedroom window.
Acting Sergeant Aaron Clarke said: “Burglary is a disgusting, invasive crime, which has no home here in London. We are not content just to catch burglars, but to prevent people becoming victims in the first place by working together and encouraging collective responsibility.”
