THE Angel school where Michelle Obama visited last year is to be re-built as part of the borough’s £140million Building Schools for the Future programme.
Headteacher Jo Dibb welcomed plans for Elizabeth Garrett Anderson girls’ school which were approved at Islington’s west area planning committee on Tuesday night.
The development involves the demolition of nine buildings at the Risinghill Street site and new landscaping. The work is expected to begin later this year.
Ms Dibb said: “A new building will improve the learning environment.”
The Victorian Society had objected to the demolition of the 1884 Seacole block. They argued that the building was adaptable to meet modern education needs.
