WESTMINSTER’S firefighters are the busiest in London, a new “fire map”shows.

In the 12 months to April this year Westminster firefighters attended 9,024 incidents – more than in any other local authority. The London average was 3,734.

The map, which went live on the London Fire Brigade Facebook page on Tuesday, shows people how many fires, traffic accidents and other incidents firefighters were called to in their area in the past year and follows the recent launch of the Metropolitan Police’s crime maps.

• About 500 people were evacuated from the New London Theatre, Drury Lane, on Saturday after smoke was seen by staff. Four fire engines and 20 firefighters were sent to the scene, but on investigation crews realised the smoke was caused by a motor which had caught fire. The LFB were called at 2pm and the incident was over by 3pm.
