HUNDREDS of budding dancers came together for their final performance last Thursday as Parliament Hill School held an evening of high-energy dance.

The sometimes teary celebrations saw GCSE dance students take to the stage with professional troupes as they honoured their “inspiring” teacher Shirley Williams, who choreographed the event.

“A lot of us want to continue with dance as a long-term career,” said 16-year-old Nicole Gafarzada.

“This is the last time we’ll be performing together, so it’s really special.”

The three-hour event was an engaging combination of dances from around the world, including Russian folk dance, Bollywood, dubstep, street and contemporary dance.

The evening ended on an emotional note when Ms Williams accepted a bouquet of flowers from Headteacher Sue Higgins.

“Shirley, you have been an inspiration, absolutely amazing,” Ms Higgins said.

Ms Williams, who founded the Movements and Personic Youth Dance Company, said: “I am so grateful to all these girls. They are all so talented and will all go far.”
