BLUE lights and wailing sirens take them to housing estates, crack dens and rowdy nightclubs.
But two Camden police officers are swapping the mean streets for the wilderness of Canada to learn from their world famous counterparts – the Mounties.
PCs Nigel Rowe and Michael Downes are part of a group of six Met officers who will brave Arctic temperatures and the
threat of bears when they canoe along the Mackenzie River this summer.
The team will travel 1,800 kilometres in two open Canadian canoes for what is expected to be around 40 days. The trip is being funded by the Canadian government and officers will visit departments of the Canadian Mounted Police along their journey.
