Christmas lights deliver festive cheer

• As a long-time resident of St John’s Wood, I cannot thank Westminster City Council enough for taking this step (Streets get Christmas lights after years of gloom, November 27).
The Christmas lights have been much missed, and I find it appalling that the shops on the High Street can’t find it in themselves to dig into their pockets to provide some festive cheer for the local residents who keep them in business.
