Silent protest... Author speaks out over plans to change libraries

AUTHOR Tracy Chevalier saluted the importance of Camden’s libraries at a reading event.
Ms Chevalier spoke out against library bosses’ plans to tear down “silence please” signs and set up cafés and chat zones as part of sweeping changes expected next year.
“The world’s too noisy now, that’s why I want to support quiet places while they still exist,” said Ms Chevalier.
She was reading from her latest novel, Remarkable Creatures, at the annual meeting of the Friends of Heath Library at the historic Keats Grove building last Wednesday night.
“I’ve always been a big fan of this library,” added Ms Chevalier. “I love the domed roof and the feel of it. I’m glad it’s still going. I want to support local libraries under such fire at the moment.”
