Pro Touch give League big boys Watford a scare
PROMISING footballers from the Pro Touch Soccer Academy continued their climb towards the professional ranks on Wednesday when they travelled to London Colney to face a youth team representing Watford Football Club. The talented Under-12s, made up of players from across Camden and Islington, more than held their own as they twice took the lead against the Championships’ side. Midfield maestro Youcef Benkaci opened the scoring when he dribbled past three players before driving the ball low into the corner of the net.
Watford equalised, but again the Pro Touch super squad took the lead when Keanu Williams, who has been invited back by the London club for a six-week trial, powered the ball past the keeper from 15 yards out.
Watford’s experience started to shine through as they bounced back to claim a flattering 9-3 victory.
But there was still a moment of magic for the Pro Touch fans to enjoy when defender Jonathan Soper scored the goal of the game with a 25-yard thunderbolt.
Despite the result senior coach Taff Islam was delighted with how the boys performed. “The aim of the game was to give everyone the chance to play,” he said. “It wasn’t about the result, it was about the performance and the team did extremely well. “We played some great passing football and more than held our own against an academy side from a professional club.”
